Editorial policies
Transparency, responsibility and independence in every decision.
Responsibility and independence
MedETechni Journal of Translational Research covers medicine, biomedical engineering and digital health. MedETechni SpA, Chile, provides infrastructure; scientific decisions belong to editorial leadership. The confirmed structure comprises an editor-in-chief, two editors and a separate external reviewer pool. At least 70% of voting editorial members must be external. Business, sales and fundraising leadership cannot decide acceptance, select reviewers or access confidential reviewer identities. This page describes editorial responsibilities. Names and affiliations are currently retained in the private register; reviewer identities and assignments are confidential.
Double-anonymous peer review
Research articles require assessment by at least two independent human reviewers and a documented human decision by the handling editor. Double-anonymous review applies where feasible: authors and reviewers do not receive each other’s identities; the editor knows them to screen conflicts. A review copy removes names, affiliations, identifying acknowledgments and authorship metadata. Preprints and other public sources may reveal identities; absolute anonymity is not guaranteed. Editorials, institutional notes and materials without peer review are explicitly labeled. Acceptance and turnaround times are not guaranteed. Review reports, author responses and the documented decision are retained in the confidential editorial record. Authors receive the relevant feedback without disclosure of reviewer identities. Reports and correspondence are not automatically published; voluntary publication requires specific authorisation from the parties and removal of confidential information.
Conflicts and MedETechni-related articles
Authors, editors and reviewers disclose relevant financial, employment, personal, academic and intellectual property relationships, including funding and the sponsor’s role. Conflicted individuals recuse themselves from assessment or decisions. MedETechni-related manuscripts require an external editor without financial, employment, mentoring, recent coauthorship or evaluated-product ties, plus three independent human reviewers covering clinical, methodological or statistical, and technical expertise. They must be able to inspect relevant data, protocol, analysis plan and code under authorized access. Sponsors cannot prevent publication of negative results. A declaration of no conflicts does not replace the editor’s assessment.
Research ethics and registration
Studies involving people, animals or sensitive information must identify the competent committee, approval or exemption identifier and date, and consent or waiver where applicable. Clinical trials require prospective registration; late registration must be disclosed and explicitly assessed. Approvals obtained after a study must not be invented or presented as prior authorization. Identifiable material requires specific publication consent and an appropriate ethical basis. The portal does not accept identifiable medical records or patient personal data; justified requests for sensitive evidence use controlled channels.
Authorship and contributions
Each author must meet all four ICMJE criteria: substantial contribution; drafting or intellectual revision; approval of the final version; and accountability for the work’s integrity. Contributions use CRediT and a guarantor is identified. Contributors who do not meet all criteria are acknowledged with permission. Honorary, ghost and AI-tool authorship are prohibited. Authorship changes require justification, written agreement from all affected contributors and editorial assessment. The corresponding author confirms coauthor authorization when submitting.
Artificial intelligence and human accountability
Authors disclose the tool, provider, model or version, use date, purpose, affected sections and human verification performed. They remain responsible for errors, references, originality and rights. AI cannot serve as an author, human reviewer or acceptance authority. Editors and reviewers do not upload manuscripts, identities or sensitive data to public AI services. Authorized confidential tools require permissions, appropriate protection and documented use. Automated audit results are labeled as assistance and cannot alone establish human review, ethics approval or reproducibility.
Data, code and materials
Each manuscript includes separate availability statements for data, code, materials and protocol. Open resources identify a stable repository, identifier, version, license, instructions and data dictionary where applicable. Restricted access explains the reason, contact, requirements and proposed response time; a generic “available on request” statement is insufficient. Privacy is protected and data that cannot legitimately be shared need not be opened. Declared, inspected, executed and replicated evidence are distinguished; only the level actually verified is reported.
Methods, results and transparency
Authors provide the reporting guideline matching the design actually performed, with a checklist where applicable. Manuscripts explain sources, sample size, uncertainty, missing data, analysis, limitations, negative results and relevant harms. Conclusions remain within the evidence and design; association is not presented as causation without justification. Review records and versions are retained. No automated score can override a critical failure in ethics, independence, integrity or evidence.
Integrity and allegations
Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, misleading image manipulation and undisclosed duplicate publication are prohibited. Original files are retained and figure adjustments explained; AI-generated images cannot be presented as real experimental evidence. Text similarity is assessed contextually by a person rather than a single automated threshold. Confidential allegations can be sent to research@medetechni.com with the work’s identifier and available evidence. An unconflicted editor hears the parties, preserves records and requests an institutional investigation where appropriate. Complainants’ and affected parties’ confidentiality is protected.
Open access and licensing
Articles will be published open access without reader charges. The adopted editorial license is Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), subject to rights-holder authorization: authors retain copyright and grant the permissions needed for publication. Each article and PDF must explicitly state its license. This policy does not automatically relicense existing files or third-party material; restrictions must appear alongside that material. Authorization and the final version are checked before publication.
Fees and editorial funding
During the initial phase there are no submission, review or publication charges: APC is 0. MedETechni provides infrastructure; this funding confers no scientific decision-making authority. Fee or waiver changes will be announced before receiving manuscripts to which they apply, stating amount, currency and conditions. No retroactive charges will be imposed on submissions already received under this policy. Payment, ability to pay, advertising and sponsorship do not determine acceptance.
Corrections, expressions of concern and retractions
Correctable errors are addressed through correction notices. Serious unresolved concerns may warrant an expression of concern; unreliable findings or violations warranting withdrawal of confidence require retraction assessment. Each notice identifies reasons, scope, date and responsible party and links to the original. History and the identifiable original are retained wherever legally possible, without silent replacements. Persistent identifiers are added only once registered. Requests go to research@medetechni.com.
Appeals and complaints
Authors may appeal by providing the manuscript identifier, specific reasons and evidence of errors, procedural problems or overlooked conflicts. An individual independent of the contested decision assesses the appeal; the outcome and reasons are recorded. An appeal does not guarantee acceptance. Process or journal complaints go to research@medetechni.com; complaints involving the handling editor are assigned to another unconflicted editor.
Privacy and confidentiality
The portal collects authorship and correspondence details, manuscripts, disclosures and management records to process submissions. The submitter accesses their own record; scientific leadership and the unconflicted assigned editor manage assessment. Reviewers receive only their own assignment and a checked anonymized copy after accepting and disclosing conflicts. The technical administration account has no scientific authority or access to confidential assignments. Anonymization requires human checks of content and metadata; automatically detected matches are supplementary. Records are retained to manage review, integrity and migration. Access, correction or deletion requests go to research@medetechni.com; any retention needed to maintain the editorial record is explained. Private acceptance documents, reviewer identities without consent and sensitive information are not published. Periods are specified in the retention policy. Individual editor and reviewer emails are private and used for access and correspondence; the public editorial contact is research@medetechni.com.
Record retention
Policy adopted October 4, 2026. Open records are retained during assessment and appeals. Rejected or withdrawn manuscripts, versions and review copies are deleted 90 days after final closure, once appeals are resolved; requests and complaints are handled during that period. Only a minimal closure record is kept for 12 months, then deleted or irreversibly anonymized. Private records of published articles, including original submissions, revisions, reports and correspondence, are retained for 5 years after publication and then deleted, with annual necessity and data-minimization reviews. Accepted work awaiting publication remains an open record. Published articles, metadata and correction or retraction notices are preserved permanently as the public record; publication packages support public-file verification through SHA-256 manifests. An integrity investigation or legal obligation may suspend deletion: reason, scope, responsible person and next review are documented. Editorial leadership authorizes and records deletion; technical administration executes it with access limited to what is necessary, including management of backup copies. Reviewers delete local copies after submitting reports. These periods are journal decisions: ICMJE recommends at least 3 years for published records and deletion of rejected manuscripts unless applicable obligations require retention, without mandating 5 years or 90 days. Original research data remain the responsibility of authors and institutions; ICMJE recommends retaining them for at least 10 years. Automated deletion is not claimed. The public volume-1 archive was deposited in Zenodo on 28 October 2026, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23736721.
Publication and preservation
The journal adopts one annual edition with continuous publication: volume 1 in 2026 and volume 2 in 2027. Each article joins its publication-year volume after acceptance, editing and final author approval, with an article identifier and no subdivision into periodic issues. Volume-1 full texts, metadata and abstracts are provided in Spanish and English; each translation is identified and linked to its original. Downloadable publication packages contain originals, translations, figures, metadata and SHA-256 manifests for integrity and recovery checks. The volume-1 preservation copy is available at https://zenodo.org/records/23736721 (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23736721), with the five ES/EN works and its manifest. This deposit identifies the volume archive and does not replace individual article DOIs. An archived copy does not imply membership of a preservation network. Preservation-network membership, indexing, ISSN assignment, DOI registration and impact factors are not claimed without verifiable confirmation. Manuscripts can be submitted through the author workspace. Submission does not imply acceptance or a guaranteed publication date. Advertising and commercial materials must be distinguishable from scientific content and cannot influence decisions.
